Share your result as a picture, on every game here

Finish a game here and you have always been able to share it — as a line of coloured squares and a link, which is a thing somebody else has to decode before it means anything. From this week every summary on the site also draws itself as a picture: a 1080×1350 card carrying your score, your rank and your round-by-round row, in the site's own paper-and-tape look. On a phone it goes straight into a chat or a story. On a computer you save the PNG and do what you like with it.

What is on the card

The card is painted from the summary already in front of you, and that is the whole trick: it reads the game's name, your score and what it is out of, the rank you earned, the one-line verdict and the row of marks for your rounds straight off the page. So it cannot tell anybody a different number from the one you are looking at — it has nowhere else to get one from. Each round's mark carries a shape as well as a colour, a tick, a near-miss sign or a cross, so the row still reads if you are colour-blind, or if the picture lands in a feed that has dimmed it.

One thing is kept off it on purpose: the answer table. On a dated daily your summary lists what the right answers were, and a picture of an answer key is worse than a line of text that gives it away — it travels, it gets forwarded, and it cannot be taken back once it is in somebody's camera roll. The painter is not allowed to see that table at all, so a card can never leak today's answers to a player who has not had their turn yet. There is no emoji on it either, which is less interesting but just as deliberate: a picture is final, and a glyph a device happens not to have would be a permanently empty box on it.

Sending it, and saving it

There are two buttons under the card, and you want whichever one your browser supports. On a phone, Share result hands the image itself to the normal share sheet with the text beside it, so it arrives in a chat as a picture rather than as a link. On a desktop browser, which cannot do that, Save image downloads the PNG to your computer. If a browser can do neither, the old text share is exactly where it was: nothing that used to work has stopped working.

The picture on the page is the file you send. It is painted once, and the preview, the share and the download are all the same drawing, so the card in your messages cannot differ from the one you were looking at before you sent it. Every game here has one, dailies and endless runs alike — including Weekly Survival, which until this week had no share button at all.
