Weight guessing game: how Weigh It Up works

Weigh It Up is a weight guessing game. The library holds 119 objects with a recorded weight, from 2 g (Bee hummingbird) up to 10,100 t (Eiffel Tower), and every round puts one of them on a balance against a reference whose weight is given to you.

Pile up copies of the reference until you believe the pans would balance, lock in, and the beam tilts towards the side that is really heavier. Land within 6 % of the true weight and the round is perfect: 5 rounds make 500.

Today's round, worked through

Today's first round sets Golden eagle (5 kg) against Discus (2 kg). The heavier of the two is Golden eagle, so it takes 2.5 × Discus to balance it. Today's Weigh It Up answers

How much does it weigh? The library from lightest to heaviest

One object per order of magnitude, 11 of them in all, from 2 g up to 10,100 t. Each opens its own page with the figure and the source behind it.

Where the weights come from

Every weight here is a published figure, and the source is named in the sentence you read when the round is revealed: a governing body's specification for a piece of sport equipment, the manufacturer's own figure for a vehicle or a console, NASA or ESA for a spacecraft, a protected-designation or trade standard for food, a Guinness record where the object is one. Where a source gives a range, the sentence says so. Nothing here is an estimate.
